King Cruiser

Diving Koh lanta. Buceo Koh Lanta. Hidden Depths Diving

On the 4th of May 1997, the car ferry, The King Cruiser, traveling from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands, ran aground on Anemone Reef and ripped a large hole in the hull. Within half an hour, the ferry had sunk. Fortunately, all the passengers were able to escape the sinking ship.

The wreck now sits at 30 meters and although it has sustained much damage, it is still largely intact. The car deck can be explored and divers can glimpse inside the ferry to observe it’s interior.

There is much life to see here, from the larger shoals of barracuda, snappers, and trevally to macro favorites like nudibranchs and shrimps. Lionfish and scorpionfish can also be found here, together with stunning corals. There is an amazing variety of life around the wreck, and it makes for a fascinating dive. Currents can be strong and visibility can be changeable, so the dive is recommended for more experienced divers and those undertaking wreck or deep courses. The maximum depth at the site is 32m.
